Congratulations to Mrs. Walden and the Smithville High School culinary arts students! For the second year in a row, Mrs. Walden has been awarded a $5,000 Classroom Enhancement Grant sponsored by the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation. Mrs. Walden’s culinary arts students will use this grant as part of their Culinary Entrepreneur study. Student teams will collaborate to explore the growing business of Food Trucks. They will conduct research and personal interviews to develop their own business plans, marketing campaigns, recipe testing, and design/construct model food trucks. The teams will serve their signature dish to a group of patrons in a mock “Great Food Truck Race” project.
“My students are ecstatic to have received this grant and have already started the brainstorming process! I love to find creative ways to bring learning to life for my students and give them the opportunity to gain life skills through the learning process. I am incredibly thankful to the Carolyn Watson Foundation for providing such an opportunity,” says Mrs. Walden.
